Hello All
I start my 4th week of treatment tomorrow March 1.
How do I feel? I’m beginning to feel tired a little. Lack of sleep from going to the bath room about every hour at night. I find myself picking the places that I go to outside my house and if they have good toilet facilities. I’m use to the pump but look for the day when I don’t need it. Finally have learned a way to get off the radiation table so that it does not hurt my shoulder.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. It would be hard to go through this without friends.

I have finished the first week of treatment and have about
4.5 weeks remaining. I am receiving 5Fu through the portable chemo pump. I found the pump not hard to get use to. I could start to feel the chemo the first few hours after it was connected. I had a bladder infection and the oncologist give me antibiotics and that has helped a lot. On one blog, someone mention frequent trips to the bath room. That’s very true.
The radiation is OK so far. Biggest problem with it, is getting up on the radiation table in the position needed for me to be on my stomach.
I do want to thank the many people for their support. I could not go through this procedure alone. All of your encouragement has been most helpful.

hey ed…yes the bathroom visits are very frequent…for me it is every couple of hours during the night…
if you get mouth sores from the chemo remember to get the magic mouthwash…my mouth sores actually did not start until the day my first round of chemo endede…the magic mouthwash is comprised of nilstat, xylocaine and kool-aid (at least here in canada)...
the radiation will get tougher as it goes along but you can do it…
again feel free to ask anyone on here anything…it really does help!

We joined this forum on teh same day and I’ve been reading your happenings. I’ve thought about you pften during most days and said little prayers for God to lift you up and give you strength… press on and fight
im glad you got the first week of treatment under your belt. Hang in there – we’re all fighting along with ya to get through this.
Hi Ed; Glad you got over that first hurdle of chemo and radiation. I know what you mean about those damned beds. Very uncomfortable as they manipulate you to just the right spot. MAN HANDLES or WOMAN HANDLED, which ever, it gets irritating. Anyway I never did have trouble with radiation, luckily, but I did use Lubriderm cream for the areas that were getting kind of pink and sore. It helped a lot. You need someone to do that for you. I’m sure there are willing people around. ha ha. Glad to hear you have a wonderful attitude. That counts for a lot. Good luck next week.
Thanks for all your wonderful comments. Today (Monday), I have my chemo pack back and another trip to the radiation. So we are heading on full steam. Thanks for your great support.

I just finished my treatment and radiation about 2 weeks ago. I also have rectal cancer. It sounds like we have the same treatment. I also had the portable pump and daily radiation. Did you have a Port put in? That was sure fun. Please shoot me a note with questions and take good care of yourself.
Thanks Wade,
I’m chugging along here. So far the treatment has been tolerable. As I get more into it, I may have some questions. Thanks for your support.

ED,
Just hang in there and do what you have to do…If you don’t like something around you..speak up…I am an 11yr colon cancer survivor…At the time I took treatment it was once a week for 6months…I did not take radiation…I listened to my body and when it barked, I barked…It is not the most pleasant thing in the world …but I do not think it is the worst…Don’t dwell on it…just do it. Don’t peer into the future…I shared my journal here a while back…I think you might enjoy reading about someone else’s journey with colon cancer…
I know you will do fine…just hang in there and swing with the punches.

Hang in there. We’ll get through this together. Looking forward to being healthy again.
Stay strong and positive and never ever give up the fight.
Stay positive and stay busy. This stretch will be over real soon. Stay active, keep eating, and continue with lotion on the hands and feet.
Look on this side of things…4 weeks down. It helps sometimes to view things from the smaller perspective! You’re in my prayers every night! Stay positive and strong!
It does get rough, but then it gets better & better. Healing energy to you. I like the music & the place you are in your picture.
Thanks everyone for your encouraging words. I could not make it without you….. God Bless…. Ed
